History

From humble beginnings in 1937, Southern Golf Club has grown to become one of the finest golf clubs on Melbourne’s famous sandbelt.

Today, Southern Golf Club is an oasis in Melbourne’s south-east and is within a stone’s throw of some of Australia’s finest, world renowned courses including Royal Melbourne, Kingston Heath, Metropolitan and Victoria.  Set amongst trees and bushland, the hustle and bustle of city life fades into the background on this beautiful 130-acre site surrounded on most borders by Braeside National Park.

The Club boasts an 18-hole, Par 72 championship golf course that is always in immaculate condition and consistently rates as one of the best kept courses in the country.  Beautiful Santa Ana couch fairways, sculptured bunkers and fast, true poa/bent greens offer a challenge to golfers of all levels.  Measuring just over 6250 metres (6851 yards), Southern’s tight landing zones and small, undulating greens offer a true test to all golfers.

The Club has been home to some of Australia’s best golfers over the years including Australian Open Champion and PGA Tour winner Bob Shearer, current PGA Tour player Cameron Percy and a host of other professionals and Australian representatives including Luke Hickmott, Ben Bunny, David Brandson and Rory Bourke.

The stylish, modern Clubhouse features a host of first class facilities including a fully stocked golf shop, lavish Men’s and Ladies’ locker rooms, a popular Members’ Bar and a dedicated conference and event space with room for up to 320 guests.  Everything is backed up by dedicated, professional and above all, friendly staff, to create an atmosphere that is warm, welcoming, and enjoyable for all members and guests who play. .
